Betfred is a well established sports betting operator in the UK, a country that has had legal betting services in their country for decades. Betfred was founded by a guy named Fred and has grown to be one of the most well-known and reputable sportsbooks in the world. Betfred has brought its sportsbook to the States, bringing with it an excellent online sports betting website and mobile app, backed with plenty of experience.
Betfred is available in a few states, with more on the way. Read on for all the information you need to get started.
Betfred Sportsbook New Player Bonus
New user bonuses are available at almost all sportsbooks, including Betfred. New users who sign up with Betfred in AZ, CO, IA, or OH using the promo code USBETS can earn up to $1,111 in FredBets when they make an initial wager of $50+.
With this Betfred Sportsbook promo offer you don’t get the full $1,111 at once. After plunking down your initial wager of $50+, you’ll get $111 in Fred Bets. After that, you will enter a five-week period that awards all new users with up to $200 in Fred Bets per week to pay back any losses.
That’s right! For five whole weeks, 50% of your net losses in the sportsbook will be paid back in Fred Bets, up to $200 per week! If you take advantage of this offer for five straight weeks, there is a total of $1,000 up for grabs in addition to that $111 to start you off.
Fred Bets can only be used on wagers with odds of at least -200 or longer, and they will only credit the winnings for the wager. Thus, you won’t get the bonus bet returned to you in the event of a successful bet – you just get the profit. Additionally, you’ve got 7 days to use your Fred Bets once they are received.

Banking Options at Betfred
Here’s a breakdown of all the banking options available at Betfred:
Deposits
Ready to make your deposit and start betting? Don’t forget about that introductory offer when you do. The following methods are available for deposits:
VIP Preferred, a service for processing bank transfers/eChecks
Play+ Card, which enables you to fill an online wallet, pairs with a physical Play+ debit card
Cash at Book, where you can make deposits in-person at partner casinos (see table above)
PayNearMe, a service allowing you to make payments at participating locations like 7-Eleven and CVS
Withdrawals
The above methods listed for deposit are also provided for withdrawals, with the exception of PayNearMe. In many cases, you’ll need to withdraw to the same method of payment you made a deposit with, so keep that in mind when you’re ready to take out your winnings.
Software
if you’re a sportsbook operator, you can have all the bets on all the sports in the world, but you’re not gonna pull in a crowd without a functional piece of software. Betfred knows this, as it has been offering online sports betting in legal markets for decades. Now that Betfred has arrived in the States, let’s overview the software that delivers this service, weighing the good and the bad.
Mobile App
The mobile version of Betfred is a solid app all around, and is definitely worth a download for bettors of all kinds. The app functions as you’d expect across multiple platforms, including iPads, iPhones, and Android devices. (A special note about installing on Android: You won’t be able to find this on the Play store, so download the APK from the Betfred website and install it to your device, enabling “installations from unknown sources” if prompted.)
Particularly nice is the Bet Builder, which is the section of your dynamically updating bet slip that enables you to build all kinds of multiplier bets, including some that are hard to find on competing websites. Additionally, finding Boosted Bets and other promotional odds is easy on mobile– just tap “Betfred Boosts” at the navigation bar at the top.
Speaking of navigation bars, that top-left menu with three stacked lines is referred to in the tech world as a “hamburger menu” (get it?), and for whatever reason, it’s blank. This issue has persisted with the Betfred app, and while it’s not getting in the way of the betting or browsing experience whatsoever, it’s just a bit strange. Hopefully Betfred’s tech partners realize this redundant menu issue and remove it.
Back to the app: the mobile platform is perhaps best paired with a television or computer live streaming your preferred game, as there’s no streaming option with the app just yet. However, perhaps the best feature of the Betfred platform is the live-updating window of the field if you’re placing in-game bets. This display gives you stats, scores, and to-the-minute information on a really neat display that mirrors the action in real time. With this sportsbook, everything you need is right in the palm of your hand and functions without any hiccups, with some novel features to boot.
Desktop Platform
The desktop version of many sportsbook apps suffer from the same issues: overly flashy graphics, a poorly-placed interface, or trying to cram too much information into one place. Thankfully, Betfred’s desktop platform doesn’t have any of these issues. On the contrary, the desktop interface can feel a bit bare. Bland is almost the word, but hey– you’re not here for flash, you’re here to place some sports bets.
Happily, Betfred on desktop is a solid way to bet if you prefer the larger screen, and everything works without muss or fuss– your betslip automatically updates as it should, with dynamically changing odds and an easy-to-figure multiplier system. Just click the bets you want to combine, and the betslip will do the rest.
(A special note about betting on desktop: You can access Betfred from anywhere, but you have to be in a state with legal, regulated betting in order to wager. To verify your location when wagering, Betfred will prompt you to download and enable the Geocomply plugin. If this plugin isn’t enabled, you won’t be able to bet.)
How is the pricing?
We’ve done the legwork here for you and made some comparisons in pricing between Betfred and other competing sportsbooks. We’re looking for the vig, which is the amount that sportsbooks charge for a bet. There’s some math behind this that we’ll spare the details of, but rest assured that the pricing for Betfred’s bets fall right in line with what we’d expect for a sportsbook of this size and reputation.
You won’t break the bank betting with Betfred, which keeps its pricing fair and competitive across both pregame and in-game bets. Spreads are set at the standard -110 on pretty much all markets, so again, Betfred keeps pace. The one place we did notice a bit of a discrepancy in pricing was with certain in-game bets, where Betfred’s pricing was a little bit better than some competitors. Overall, you’ll be happy with the pricing here, noting that your out-of-pocket for in-game bets will often be a little lower and your other pricing options are pretty much on par.
Betfred Sportsbook Betting Options
Having decades of experience, we’d also expect Betfred to offer a solid variety of available bet types, and they do. You’ll be able to place all kind of bets, from futures on the Super Bowl winner to prop bets on passing yards in the first half of an NFL game. There’s also a decent variety of in-game bets at your disposal on anything from European League soccer to the MLB. Bets include:
Moneyline bets, straightforward bets on the winner of a match.
Over/under or totals bets, where you bet on the total number of points scored by both teams.
Spread betting, where you aim for a team to “cover” the spread by winning and leading by a certain number of points, usually from 3 to 10.
Parlays, which allow you to bet on more than one game (or “leg”). If just one of your legs is a loss, the parlay falls out from under you and you win nothing, so make sure you’ve made wise choices.
Teasers are like parlays, but you can “tease” the spread to give yourself a better chance of hitting the right mark across all your bets.
Futures bets are bets for something that happens in the future, like picking a World Series champion before the season starts.
In-game betting is also available: bet on specific events within the game as the action unfolds
We’ve made mention of it before, but of note is the Bet Builder, which allows users to create multiple bets of their choosing. If you’re looking to really play with the numbers for a higher payout or an increased edge, this is a great tool, and one of the most versatile we’ve seen on the online sports betting market. With that in your back pocket, you’ll be able to make complex bets of many kinds in addition to placing the standard bets you’d expect from a modern sportsbook.
Markets
This operator hosts a decent selection of available betting markets, pleasing to most U.S. sports fans. There is a bit of a lack of niche markets and some sports that are growing in popularity in the betting world, like volleyball, rugby, and eSports. Still, the majority of betting aficionados, as well as those curious hobbyists looking for a good way to pass the time, will enjoy what they’ve got here. Betfred Sportsbook offers bets on:
Baseball
Basketball
Boxing
Football
Golf
Ice Hockey
Mixed Martial Arts
Motor Racing
Soccer
Table Tennis
Other Promotions
This is one of the solitary areas in which Betfred sportsbook is actually a bit disappointing– there are no promotions to speak of once you’ve gotten through the door and used up your welcome offer. That’s all you’re gonna get for now, and as Betfred is laser-focused on expanding its base of operations with the tide of U.S. legalization, we’re not expecting that to change overnight.
If Betfred were to implement some kind of additional promotional offers, they would likely come in the form of bonus bets or perhaps bet insurance, which would be tied to a specific bet. For example, you might see a bet insurance promotion offered in Colorado for the Broncos to win the AFC West, and if they don’t clinch that final game, the operator credits your account to the tune of your wager. Also, we’ve seen some sportsbooks offer loyalty programs, which pay you back rewards points and cashback bonuses for the money you spend on the site. Nothing like that so far, but there is one thing you can look forward to after you start your account: boosted bets.
Betfred Boosts are boosted bets offered by the operator. What a “boost” does is essentially increase your potential payout if your bet should be successful. Many seasoned sports bettors look for boosted bets as a way to improve the expected outcome of their betslip, and operators do it to draw customers in to new markets, promote partnerships, or just as a service to their bettors. In short, there aren’t any standalone promotions once your welcome offer is over and bet with, but these boosted bets are just as good (if not better) than bonus bets or bet insurance.
Customer Support
Right off the bat, if you’re a new sports bettor, you’re probably going to look for a knowledge base or some kind of FAQ section to guide you on your betting adventure. No such luck with Betfred– this operator, quite frankly, doesn’t offer the user any way to educate themselves on betting. You’re left to your own devices, watching YouTube or (hint, hint) reading USBets to get you up to speed on sports betting 101.
If you need more directed help, you should definitely reach out to Betfred’s customer support teams, available by text, phone or email. Having a text option is a fantastic addition, because sometimes you’d just rather not talk. These options are available outside normal business hours, so feel free to reach out. Your most detailed concerns, like tax information and account management, are best handled through email support, which can take a few business days.
Betfred Review Summary
