BetMGM Goes Live In New York With Plenty Of ‘Free Money’ Offers

BetMGM becomes fifth to join New York sports betting market
BetMGM coming Monday New York

BetMGM on Monday morning became the fifth digital sports betting platform to enter the New York market, offering a handful of specials ranging from a $1,000 “risk-free” bet for new customers to individual specials on the final NFL wild card game and contests involving the New York Knicks and Rangers.

BetMGM joins BetRivers, Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel, all of which went live Jan. 8. When all is said and done, New York bettors will have nine digital platforms from which to choose. Bally Bet, PointsBet, Resorts World, and WynnBet are still to launch.

The latest launch came in time for bettors to wager on Monday night’s wild card game between the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams. BetMGM is offering a “Bet $10, Win $200” promo in which bettors can pick either the Cardinals or Rams to score a touchdown. If their chosen team scores, the bettor wins.

The company is also running specials for the Knicks, who play host to the Charlotte Hornets Monday night, and the Rangers, who are back in action on Wednesday. BetMGM will leverage partnerships with Madison Square Garden, the MGS Network, the Knicks, and the Rangers to market to potential customers. The company will have signage at MSG and has plans for VIP and special events.

The Brooklyn Nets, Buffalo Sabres, and New Your Islanders are all also in action this week to attract the state’s bettors, though MGM has not advertised specials related to those games. The only New York NFL team still playing is the Buffalo Bills, who beat the New England Patriots Saturday night to advance to a AFC divisional playoff game Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. BetMGM so far has not offered any specials keyed to the Bills. Caesars over the weekend announced a partnership deal with the Bills.

BetMGM doesn’t currently have a live retail location in New York, but it is partnered with the Empire City Casino in Yonkers. It also has a deal with the NFL Jets that includes a state-of-the-art television studio at the Jets practice facility and virtual immersive Jets-themed blackjack and roulette experiences for its New Jersey online casino players.

Launch day a little low-key

BetMGM’s launch day was a bit muted, given it came on both a Monday and a holiday. On wagering’s first weekend, geofencing company GeoComply had shared that about 17 million bets were placed in New York Jan. 8-9.

BetMGM did not share information about first bets or any statistics about the early hours of betting, but along with consumers, did get its share of tweets out there. Here is a sampling:

Caesars add Bills to roster

Over the weekend, Caesars Sportsbook announced that it is now a sports betting partner with the Bills. As part of the deal, Caesars will have a branded “sportsbook-style premium club lounge” at the Bills’ Highmark Stadium ahead of the 2022 NFL season. Caesars will also have signage in the stadium, will offer online sports betting signups at the stadium, and will offer premium and VIP experiences through the Bills.

“This partnership gives us the opportunity to connect with one of the most passionate fan bases in all of sports,” said Chris Holdren, co-president of Caesars Digital, via company press release. “We’re ready to welcome Bills fans into the Caesars Empire and offer them access to best-in-class hospitality experiences through our Caesars Sportsbook app as we continue to expand our footprint across the state of New York and beyond.”

The Bills announced a similar partnership with FanDuel earlier this month.
