Place/Lay Bets

Hardways are sort of longer-lasting prop bets. Here, you can bet on rolling pairs of the four, six, eight, or ten before the seven comes. The odd thing is that you lose not only on seven but also if you roll the desired number in any way other than as a pair. For instance, you lose if you bet $5 on the hard four, but the dice rolls a three and a 1. The Hard Six and Eight pay 9 to 1, while the Hard Four and Ten pay 7 to 1.

Field

Horn Bet

Like the bets we just discussed, the horn bet is betting on all four numbers: two, three, eleven, and twelve. Think of it as just betting $1 on each of them.

It’s a one-roll bet, paying the same as if you bet each number separately but minus the losers. If twelve rolls, a $4 horn pays $30 for the twelve but minus $3 for the $1 each on the losing numbers, two, three, eleven. So you get $27.

Whirl/World

There is some confusion about what this bet is called in different parts of the country, so that you may see it either way. It’s a horn bet, but now we are adding an any seven. So, a $5 whirl/world bet is the same as a $1 each on the two, three, eleven, twelve, and now the seven.

If twelve rolls, we get $30 minus the $4 on the losing bets, so $26. If seven rolls, it pays $4 minus the $4 on the other losing numbers, so it’s a push.
