Connecticut is becoming even more gambling-friendly, having legalized both online casinos and online sports betting. The priority for now seems to be set on sports, but the current plan is to have both forms of online gaming launch at the same time. However, all Connecticut online casinos will need to go through one of the state’s two Native American Tribes, which can complicate matters. All compacts between the state and the Tribes must receive federal approval before moving forward.
Although the Connecticut online casino bill was signed into law, there are still a few hurdles to get over before you can start doubling down from the comfort of your couch. The federal approval needs to be finalized and the final tax rates and other regulations need to be settled. The goal has been set for a late 2021 launch, but that may stretch over into 2022. On this page, we will walk you through what online casinos will be coming to Connecticut, the current regulations, and of course who will have the best bonus offers when online gaming launches in the state.

Connecticut online casino timeline
Online casinos are coming to Connecticut, but the big questions are when and who will be launching their online casino product in the state. The simplest answer would be that there is no start date set as of yet, but we can do our best to put together a timeline. Initial projections were for a Fall 2021 start, but there are a few things standing in the way of this coming to fruition.
The first problem that needs to be solved is that all compacts between the CT state government and local tribes needs to be approved by the Department of the Interior in Washington D.C. before anything can be finalized. The proposal was sent on over in March 2021, and historically speaking, this could take up to 6 months to be finalized. We do not anticipate any issues with the approval process, but with anything that gets sent to D.C., it just takes time to be reviewed and approved.
Another issue that is holding up the launch of online casinos in Connecticut is that the final set of rules and regulations need to be set and approved. The bill that became law was left as an almost bare bones, fill in the blanks structure for online casinos to be legalized and regulated. Things like the tax rate still need to be proposed, voted on, and finalized.
There is also the process of approving all the online casinos, software providers, banking options and more. Each online casino must go through rigorous testing to make sure games are fair, run smoothly and are up to standard to be offered as a legal online casino in the US. Within every online casino are the gaming providers such as IGT, NetENT and Everi Gaming that need to be tested. Plus, all banking options need to be assessed to be sure that money is kept safe and secure.
The Fall 2021 timeline seems a bit aggressive considering how much needs to be done, but we are most likely looking for a late 2021, early 2022 launch for both online casinos and online sports betting in Connecticut.
Who can play at Connecticut online casinos?
If you are wondering who will be able to play at Connecticut online casinos when they go live, there are a few things to keep in mind. First is that you must be at least 21 years of age or older, and there are no exceptions. During the registration process, your age and identification will be verified and if you are under 21, you will not be able to play.
You also have to be physically located within the border of Connecticut to spin the reels, play blackjack or bet on red 21. When you create an account and play on your computer, you will need to download a location plugin that uses your Wi-Fi signal and up to 3 other available networks in order to pinpoint your location. When playing on your phone or other mobile devices, the GPS chip in your device will need to be on and no plugin is required. Just grant the app access to your location and you are good to go. It’s important to stipulate that you do not need to be a Connecticut resident and you can create an account from anywhere, but in order to place actual bets, you will need to set foot in Connecticut.
In addition, you can’t be on any restricted lists, either self-imposed or mandated by the state or casino itself. There are safeguards in place, such as deposit limits, wagering limits, and time limits, to keep gaming fun and help problem gamblers stay away. Also, if you were ever banned from a retail casino in the state, you may be on a restricted list that will also prevent you from creating an online account. Whether you got booted for cheating at the tables or underage gambling, you will not be able to participate if you had issues at one of the state’s retail casinos.
How to register
Each online casino will have their own registration process, but will all be pretty similar as the laws dictate specifics of what information is necessary. What online casinos are coming to Connecticut?
With three online casino licenses up for grabs, Connecticut is not going to be a heavily contested market like New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Michigan, but we can affirm that where Connecticut misses out on quantity, they will make up for it with quality. In order to operate legally in the state, online casino operators will need to partner with one of the two tribes, or with the Connecticut State Lottery. We know of two big players in the industry that will be making their way up 95, and can take our best guess about who will take the coveted third spot.

DraftKings – Mashantucket Pequot Tribe
DraftKings has partnered with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe in order to bring their online and retail services to Connecticut. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe own the legendary Foxwoods Casino, and are looking to make a big splash in the online market by partnering with one of the biggest names in online gambling in the US. Foxwoods is one of the largest casinos in the country and is home to nearly 350,000 square feet of gaming floor that has over 250 table games, a massive poker room, over 5000 slot machines and soon will play host to a DraftKings Sportsbook. Pair that with thousands of hotel rooms, nearly two dozen restaurants and even a zip line and go-karts, and we can see why Foxwoods is such a popular destination.
The partnership was formed in late 2020, before we even knew that online casinos were coming to the state. DraftKings home is just a short drive over the Massachusetts border and took advantage of the NorthEast connection to become one of the only online casino brands that will go live in CT. Check out our full review of DraftKings Casino for all the up to date bonus offers and gaming details.
More about DraftKings CT
DraftKings, the self proclaimed “King” of Daily Fantasy Sports, started out in 2012 in Boston Massachusetts, and was the first to market in the online sportsbook game. Rounding out the suite, they added online casino to their growing gaming business and are using their name recognition and reputation to help lead them into the forefront in the online casino market. DraftKings is always a top earner in every market they enter, and seeing as Connecticut is only a three man competition, we expect DraftKings to be a major player in the region.
DraftKings does not always have the biggest selection of casino games, but their library of games has been steadily growing since they first went live in New Jersey in 2018. Their goal is to be a one-stop shop for all online gambling and are one of the only brands that carry over your balance to other legal US states. In other words, if you have a DraftKings account in Connecticut, and have $100 in your account, you will be able to use that balance if you were to Travel to Michigan, Tennessee or any other state that DraftKings is legal and live in. One deposit gets you access to the online sportsbook, online casino, and DFS verticals as the cashier shares balances across all three.
FanDuel Casino – Mohegan Tribe
It seems fitting that FanDuel Casino, the biggest threat to DraftKings in any US market, would be the second online casino brand to lock up a deal in Connecticut. Similar to DraftKings, FanDuel also has NorthEastern ties as they also got their start in Daily Fantasy Sports just over the border in Boston, Massachusetts. FanDuel has also made the conversion to online sports betting and online casino gaming seem effortless and are always among the frontrunners in every new state that moves their gaming online. FanDuel offers daily casino promotions (some big, some small) and also shares their balance across all legal market and all three verticals, DFS, casino and sports.
FanDuels online casino has a smaller library of games than most of their competition, but what they lack in volume, they make up for in quality. Games from top online casino providers such as NetEnt, IGT and Everi, FanDuel has some of the highest RTP slots and just enough table games to keep you coming back. FanDuel also prides itself on offering amazing customer service and some of the quickest cashouts in the game.
FanDuel has partnered with the Mohegan Tribe in order to bring their online casino to Connecticut. Another massive casino based in Connecticut, the Mohegan Sun Casino has 6500 slot machines, nearly 400 gaming tables, a large poker room and soon to be home to a FanDuel retail sportsbook. There are 1500 hotel rooms available, restaurants and also plays host to the WNBA team, the Connecticut Sun. Mohegan Sun have hit the jackpot by partnering with FanDuel, who are a major player in the US gambling market.
Other potential online casinos
The Connecticut lottery will also be partnering with an online casino provider, and it still remains a mystery as to who that suitor may be. The Connecticut lottery has partnered with BetRivers for their online sports betting, but have not shown that they are willing to extend that deal to the online casino space, at least for now.
Other potential candidates that are active in other states and have shown that they would like to expand throughout the country include:
Connecticut online casino promotions
When you sign up for a new online casino account there is usually some type of sign up bonus or promotion running to help you choose their casino over the competition. When online casinos compete, you come out the real winner as some of these bonuses could net you thousands of dollars in free play and bonus cash. Here are some of the most common types:
CT casino deposit bonuses
The most common new player promotion is a deposit bonus that adds bonus money based on your first real money deposit. There are some wagering requirements that you will need to fulfill before the bonus funds are moved to your cash balance, but most are pretty simple to complete.
For example, if an online casino is offering a 100% match up to $500, and has 10x wagering requirements, you would then have to wager $5000 before cashing out the funds. Its important to read all the terms and conditions attached to the offer, or read one of our in-depth reviews for a full breakdown on all you need to know about every online casino’s bonus rules.
CT no deposit bonus
No deposit bonuses are about as simple as they get, as all you need to do to claim is simply register for a new account. Once the registration is completed, you will have money waiting in your account. The amount of bonus funds involved in a no deposit bonus are typically much smaller, somewhere between $10 and $50, but free money is never a bad thing. There will be some wagering requirements attached to these offers as well.
Connecticut free Spins
Some online casinos will attach some free spins to an existing offer to help you find a new favorite game. The free spins are usually attached to a specific title or table game and the funds generated from the free spins will also likely have some wagering requirements as well. You are not going to get rich playing with free spins, but it gives you a chance to try some new games, and possibly make some money along the way.
A new promotion that is gaming popularity among online casinos is risk-free casino play. You make a deposit, play games for a certain time period and any money lost during that time period will be refunded in either cash, or bonus money. For example, if an online casino is offering 24 hours of risk free play up to $1000, you can make a $1000 deposit and play as much as you want. If your balance after 24 hours is $500, you will be refunded $500 in bonus cash. If your balance is $1300, nothing happens and you can cash out the winnings or keep playing.
Safe banking with CT online casinos
When online casinos go live in Connecticut every facet of the online gaming industry will be extensively tested for integrity, and none more scrutinized than the banking options that will be available. Most banking options are things that you use everyday, while others may be new to you. They are all vetted for safety, integrity and speed of payment. Each method will have their own limits and speed, but the most common are:
- PayPal: Most people already have a PayPal account whether they were shopping for golf clubs or finding that vintage record on eBay. But for those that don’t know, PayPal is the worlds most popular eWallet that allows you connect your bank account and/or credit card for easy and secure online payments.
- Credit/Debit cards: Almost all online casinos allow you to use your Visa or MasterCard, with some accepting Discover as well. This is a deposit only method, so you will need to set up another method for getting money off the CT online casino.
- VIP Preferred: This is an ACH/eCheck options that connects your checking account using your routing and account number, same as a paper check. VIP Preferred is available for both deposits and withdrawals.
- Online Banking: If you have ever paid bills online, this is essentially the same thing. Sign in to your online banking account and transfer funds in and out of your online casino account.
- PayNearMe: Select PayNearMe in the online casino cashier and a barcode will be generated. Take that barcode along with cash to any CVS, Family Dollar or 7-11 and the cashier will scan the barcode, take the cash and the money will be in your account within 15 minutes. This is also a deposit only method.
- Play+ cards: Each online casino will have their own card, but you can get started instantly right in the cashier. It takes just a few moments to sign up, but you can link your bank account immediately and make your first deposit. The physical card will arrive in your mailbox within two weeks, and can be used at any ATM or anywhere Discover is accepted.
- Cash at the casino cage: Bring cash and your photo ID to the affiliated retail casino for quick and easy deposits or withdrawals.
What online casino games will be offered in Connecticut?
Just like your favorite retail casino, you will find a variety of games to choose from with Connecticut’s online options. From slots, to table games, to video poker, they will have it all.
CT online slots
Slots are extremely popular in the US online casino industry, and for good reason. There are countless options on all of your favorite online casinos from several different slot providers. Each game has their own theme, bet sizing and value, and online slots tend to have a higher return to player percentage than their retail counterparts.
Online table games in Connecticut
All of your favorite table games from the casino have made their way online, including Roulette, Blackjack, Casino War, Baccarat and more. The days of waiting for a seat at the blackjack table are over, and no more $25 minimum tables as most online casino games will have a minimum bet at just a fraction of the price, some as low as $0.10. There are several different varieties of table games such as 100:1 Roulette, multi-hand blackjack and various sidebets to get you some extra value while playing all your favorite games.
The same GameKing suite of games that you have seen at every casino bar has also made its way to you computer or mobile device. Video poker games have a high return and can be played via a variety of different game types including Bonus Poker, Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, and more.
Combining the best of both worlds, live dealer games stream direct from the casino floor to your living room. All bets are accepted electronically, but real cards are dealt, real balls spin around the roulette wheel and you can even interact with the dealer and other players. Games move quicker as there are no chips to shuffle around, but not as fast as regular online games. Live games include roulette, blackjack, baccarat and occasionally craps.
