Legal sports betting is almost ready to go live in Arizona! It’s been a mostly smooth path since Gov. Doug Ducey signed HB 2772 into law in mid-April, and the state’s Department of Gaming has begun issuing license approvals to Arizona sportsbooks ahead of an expected launch in early September.

The success of online wagering in other states has prompted Arizona to prioritize digital betting for availability before the start of the NFL season. Soon after, most operators will begin augmenting their digital presence with retail locations.

As a result, sportsbook operators have been pairing with professional sports teams, sporting venues, and tribal-run casinos throughout the Grand Canyon State.

If all goes as expected, bettors in Arizona will be able to wager on sporting events starting Sept. 9, which means betting would be available ahead of the Cardinals’ NFL season opener versus the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 12. College football bettors also have reason to be excited, as wagering is permitted on in-state schools including Pac-12 rivals Arizona and Arizona State.

In the interim, sportsbooks are gaining approval of their applications to go live, and starting Aug. 28, they have promotional offers available to Arizonans. That’s why we’re here – to detail what those pre-launch offers are and point you in the right direction(s).

FanDuel Sportsbook

  • Expected Launch date: Sept. 9, 2021
  • Tech partners: IGT (platform), Paddy Power Betfair (pricing/risk management)
  • Mobile apps: iOS and Android
  • Integration ties: FanDuel Daily Fantasy (desktop platform)
  • Special features: Same-game parlay

On Aug. 23, FanDuel was the first sports betting operator approved for wagering in the state of Arizona, and it was also granted a daily fantasy sports license by the Department of Gaming. FanDuel is one of the biggest sports betting platforms in the United States and offers wagering in nearly every legal jurisdiction where multiple operators are permitted.

In Arizona, FanDuel has partnered with the reigning NBA Western Conference champion Phoenix Suns. The two sides also are Daily Fantasy Sports partners, and FanDuel will be available for real-money DFS contests as well beginning Aug. 28.

FanDuel plans to offer digital sports betting first and will eventually open a retail sportsbook at Footprint Center, where the Suns play their home games.

To mark its entry into Arizona, FanDuel is offering $100 in site credits at sign-up that will be available when sports betting goes live.

BetMGM Sportsbook

  • Expected Launch date: Sept. 9, 2021
  • Tech partners/platform: Entain, Roar Digital
  • Mobile apps: iOS and Android
  • Integration ties: M life Rewards
  • Special features: Loads of rotating promotional offers

BetMGM has been steadily improving its standing as a top option for sports bettors and was the first operator to partner with both a sports team and a tribal casino for its Arizona entry. BetMGM has teamed up with the Cardinals, which will give the sportsbook an instant bump in visibility with the start of the NFL season drawing near, and eventually, a retail location at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

Its tribal partnership with the Gila River Indian Community offers the potential of BetMGM having two mobile platforms in the state in addition to the three retail sportsbooks it could open at the tribe’s casino locations.

BetMGM has a straightforward promotion to mark its launch in the Copper State, offering $200 in free bets upon registration.

DraftKings Sportsbook

  • Expected launch date: Sept. 9, 2021
  • Tech partners/platform: SB Tech
  • Mobile apps: iOS and Android
  • Integration ties: DraftKings Daily Fantasy
  • Special features: In-game wagering

DraftKings made sure it would be a player in the Arizona market for both sports betting and daily fantasy sports as the movements expanded west. The online titan took an unconventional route into the Grand Canyon State, partnering with TPC Scottsdale for digital entry with designs of having a retail sportsbook at one of the most popular stops on the PGA Tour.

The popularity of in-game wagering for golf tournaments, having 2020 U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau as one of its company sponsors, and being the “Official Daily Fantasy Game of the PGA TOUR” made DraftKings and TPC Scottsdale sensible partners in Arizona.

DraftKings will offer DFS contests beginning Aug. 28 and is expected to offer online sports wagering leading up to the NFL season. It is offering a free $150 bet upon signing up with the DraftKings Sportsbook.

Caesars Sportsbook

  • Expected launch date: Sept. 9, 2021
  • Tech partners/platform: Liberty
  • Mobile apps: iOS and Android
  • Integration ties: Caesars Rewards

Though Caesars Sportsbook may look like a new name at first, it is backed with vast industry experience when you recall its previous brand name of William Hill. Bolstering its new identity with a national “We Are All Caesars” ad campaign, Caesars made its initial Arizona inroads via partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks and has plans to open a sportsbook adjacent to Chase Field.

Caesars has made success in Arizona a priority, further evidenced by its partnership with the Ak-Chin Indian Community, with plans to open a retail sportsbook just outside the Phoenix metropolitan area. It also struck a recent partnership with the Fiesta Bowl – one of college football’s six New Year’s Day bowl games and part of the College Football Playoff rotation — that will include a fan lounge at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

Caesars is offering a $100 free bet with registration that will be credited on Sept. 9, plus a $1 free bet for every point or run scored by Arizona teams in the following games when a bet is placed before Sept. 13:

  • Arizona Cardinals vs. Tennessee Titans on Sept. 12 (NFL)
  • Arizona State vs. UNLV on Sept. 11 (College Football)
  • Arizona vs. San Diego State on Sept. 11 (College Football)
  • Any game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners from Sept. 10-12 (MLB)

WynnBET Sportsbook

  • Expected Launch date: Sept. 9, 2021
  • Tech partners: Scientific Games (platform), Don Best Sports (managed trading services)
  • Mobile apps: iOS and Android
  • Integration ties: Wynn Rewards (Red, Platinum, and Black tiers)

A relative newcomer to the sports betting scene, WynnBET is part of Wynn Interactive, an offshoot of the Nevada-based Wynn Resorts. Arizona is the seventh state in which WynnBET will be available for sports wagering, with the book gaining online access to the Grand Canyon State through a partnership with the San Carlos Apache Tribal Gaming Enterprise.

The tribe operates two casinos, Apache Gold and Apache Sky, with both located north of Tucson and east of Phoenix. Bettors familiar with Wynn Rewards will be pleased to find out that program will extend to its sports betting offerings, which include opportunities to earn “FREECREDIT” and “COMPDOLLLARS.”

WynnBET has an offer of a $1,000 risk-free bet plus $200 free if you deposit and wager before Sept. 9. It also has an intriguing promotion for Arizona bettors, offering one entry per $50 deposited in the pre-registration period that ends at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13 for the “Wynn Field Club VIP Experience. The grand prize provides the winner eight game tickets and a VIP table at the Wynn Field Club at Allegiant Stadium, two free nights at Wynn or Encore Las Vegas, $2,000 on-property credit, and roundtrip airfare up to $500 per person in the group.
