William Hill is one of the oldest sportsbooks in existence. The company was founded in 1934 in Britain and has grown into one of the largest sports betting brands in the world.
In 2012, William Hill entered the United States sports betting market by bringing its platform to Nevada. Since that entrance, the company has expanded operations to more states and will continue to do so as the industry grows in the U.S.
New William Hill players can benefit from the sportsbook’s welcome offer, which is competitive with those across the market.
|William Hill Sportsbook Promo Code||BETSRF|
|Welcome Bonus||$500 Risk Free Bet|
|Bonus Valid||January 2021|
*Illinois offer differs: Players receive up to a $300 Risk-Free Bet with code USB300 .
The William Hill welcome package comes in the form of a risk free bet worth up to $500. Starting after account creation, new William Hill customers will have a week (7 days) to place a qualifying bet. If this initial wager loses, they will receive a free bet of equal value up to the max of $500. Use code BETSRF during sign up to secure the promotion.
The risk free bet will be credited within 72 hours after the wager is graded as a loss. Once the free bet is awarded it will expire in one week (7 days). If there are multiple wagers on the bet slip, the first item will count as the risk free bet.
It will come as little surprise to hear that William Hill has a strong range of retail locations throughout the US. For online play, here is where you can bet:

One thing that we have noted from William Hill is their eagerness to really crack the U.S. market. Before the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA), William Hill was one of the biggest brands in the country. Although UIGEA did cause a setback, William Hill positioned itself through Nevada and New Jersey to become a major national player, and it has.
Although bonus offers may vary slightly from state to state at times, the same William Hill sportsbook product has proven available in each state where it has come online so far. This includes banking, promotions, software, and wager types that the company is known to offer.
You’re able to register an account with William Hill via both their online sportsbook and their mobile sports betting app. It’s a process that is very slick, so it only takes a couple of minutes to complete.
As long as you are over the age of 21, you can register an account with William Hill.
We’ve highlighted in this review that you can only bet online in a few states at this time (New Jersey, Iowa, and Nevada), but you can register an account in any state. You just are not allowed to wager online until you are physically located in one of the states William Hill is licensed in.
For example, if you live in New York, you can register for an account, but you would then need to travel to New Jersey to place an online bet at William Hill.
You can open your account via William Hill’s online sportsbook or betting app. We speak more about the app later in this review, but it’s one of the best that we have come across to register an account and it is just as easy as it is online.
Once you go to the William Hill website or download the app, you need to find the “Register” button to begin the process of creating an account. Click the button and then begin to enter your information when prompted. You’ll need to enter your name, email, date of birth, and phone number, and then the second page will ask you for answers to security questions that you need to link to your account, along with your address.
Make sure all the info you are entering is accurate. You’ll also have to add the last four digits of your social security number so that William Hill can correctly identify you.
If you have a promo code, you can also enter it while going through the registration process, or just click the links on this page to save that step. Once that is complete and you’ve double checked and confirmed all information is correct, you can make your first deposit.
The banking section is one that William Hill claims it is improving. We would like to see them add PayPal as an option for withdrawals and deposits. We spoke with them on live chat about certain options and if things were limited by state. We were informed that the banking area of the sportsbook is one of the most important elements and something that is getting constant attention to improve.
Here’s a more detailed look at the deposit and withdrawal options from William Hill.
To deposit into William Hill, you need to access one of the following methods:
Each option has a higher minimum ($20) than many competitors, which may discourage those playing with lower bankrolls or force bettors to deposit more than they would like.
Deposits for each method will be processed immediately, so you can start betting right away. William Hill doesn’t charge any fees, but it does state that some banks see gambling as needing cash advances, which means fees could be applied.
While you cannot at this time use PayPal directly, the William Hill prepaid card allows you to link directly to your PayPal account. This means that you can move money to and from your prepaid card via PayPal without directly linking PayPal to the online site. This is all triggered via the Play+ account, which you can sign up for via the account section once logged in. It runs full security checks for this feature and not every account is accepted for a card, so bear this in mind.
Withdrawals may be processed via ACH (eCheck), online banking and via a Play+ card. And you can link all the deposit options listed above to your William Hill card.
Withdrawals are processed within 72 hours, although often they’re processed much faster than this. Also, you need to withdraw a minimum of $20 per transaction, which is higher than at some shops, but given it matches the same as the deposit limit, it makes sense.
If you want your money instantly, then you will need to withdraw via any of their ever-increasing list of retail locations. For this, you need your account number, email address, and government-issued ID to get your money and you will need to go to a physical location to receive it.
The best way to describe the William Hill software is to say it’s “clean.”
The platform can be accessed via William Hill’s website, which is mobile-friendly, or through the mobile app available for iOS and Android devices. The design is simple and, as we said off the top of this section, clean. There are not a lot of bells and whistles that come with William Hill’s platform, which is just fine.
You get a menu down the left, markets in the middle, and then your bet slip is on the right. Sports betting purists will likely love the William Hill platform, as it’s designed to get you in, find your bet, choose your stake, and place the wager. It’s simple.
On the negative side, we can’t help but think that it lacks a little character. We have to compare this to the likes of FanDuel or PointsBet, which are some of the best, and it feels like you’ve gone a little back in time with William Hill.
These things are subjective, though, and it’s not a terrible platform to use by any means. Again, it’s simple to use and has a very clean layout. It’s lightning-fast between sports and wagers, the bet slip is one that only intrudes when you need it to, and it’s one of few platforms that includes a search function that actually works as it was intended to.
Let’s now discuss the mobile app. To start, you can pretty much ignore everything that we mentioned regarding the online website, but in a good way.
First, to get the William Hill mobile app, you can download it directly to your iOS or Android device. iOS users can download the app from the App Store, and Android users can get it from going to the William Hill website to download the program.
Once you’re in, the app is a joy to use. The clean look that we spoke about with the desktop site comes into its own within the app. We love that the app has a bottom menu for navigation. For those that like to be lazy and scroll with one hand, it means you jump between sports, bet slip, open bets, and the search function all using your thumb. It’s very efficient.
You then have the main menu located at the top of the app, and that’s where you start to really dig down into the meat of the William Hill sportsbook. The bet slips are brilliant, as they allows you to simply swipe as you continue to include wagers. If you’re a fan of parlay betting, this is an understated feature of William Hill’s mobile app that will be very much welcomed.
Would we say the app is better than the online version? Yes, and this is a testament to how good the app is.
If we were going to class betting lines as a feature, then we would have to say that it’s one of the best features of the William Hill sportsbook. This should come as no real surprise, though, as William Hill has a vast amount of experience in the space.
To kick things off, we started to look at the margins that are on offer. For those that don’t know, margins are often known as vig or juice and are basically the cut that a sportsbook takes from each bet. The lower the margin, the more favorable for the bettor.
William Hill is working at a margin of around 3.5%. This number has been taken from dozens of sports and wagers through the William Hill online sportsbook. To put that into some context, this is the lowest margin that we have come across, tied only with Caesars.
What’s most impressive is how versatile the whole structure is. It’s not as if it’s just good on the money line or parlays or point spreads. We found very few faults within the sportsbook. Even when it was off, it wasn’t by much.
We have to add that from the 30 or so wagers that we randomly compared, it was never the worst price or even tied at any point from the tests we ran. It’s the only sportsbook to have come up with the goods for this from the dozens that we’ve tested.
The only negative that we can come up with here is that the sportsbook often didn’t offer the absolute best price that we could find. So while it certainly offered better prices than most, it didn’t offer the best price often.
As we’ve always said, it’s always important to line shop. Even though William Hill does offer some very good prices, it never hurts to check out other sportsbooks to see if there’s a better price out there. It’s also important to always make sure you check William Hill’s prices before betting at another sportsbook, as you’ll often find a better price at William Hill.
As you can expect, all of the standard types of wagers are available at William Hill, but the overall selection can be categorized as a little bland as compared to other sportsbooks. This area could be improved upon, but it’s not as though the William Hill sportsbook is severely lacking with its betting options that would be cause for concern.
As things pertain to the betting markets that William Hill offers, the usual suspects are all there, such as football, baseball, basketball, soccer, tennis, and more. The market even includes things such as Aussie rules football and MMA fighting, although both are pretty well covered within the industry these days.
Similar to the types of wagers that are offered, we would like to see some more betting markets offered from William Hill. It is such a large global brand with a strong footing in the U.S. market that we believe this could be expanded upon, especially if William Hill wants to continue to compete with the likes of FanDuel.
Game selection within the sports is excellent and this area stands up against pretty much any brand within the sector.
The first place that we want to start was with the NBA. Here, you are looking at around 30-40 wagers that you can make for each game. It’s not huge, but compared to the competition, it’s a good baseline.
We particularly liked the alternative lines that are offered, not just for the NBA, but for a host of other sports as well. These range based on the quarter/period for that specific game, but there is a really nice balance that tends to offer good value.
Within the football sector, NFL and college, the sportsbook really starts to sing. You’ve got over 90 bets to choose from on average, and while this isn’t as big as you can get, it’s a healthy amount.
The prop bets are the highlight here, and it’s come up with a great variety to stick your teeth into. We loved the score/win doubles and also the variety of passing yard spreads for the individual markets.
Finally, we wanted to look at William Hill’s in-play section. It’s a little thin in terms of matches, but it does offer a reasonable range of markets to bet on. The inclusion of the match center is the highlight here, and this is something that is taken directly from William Hill’s European-based sportsbook.
Promotions at William Hill online sportsbook are pretty good. They tend to offer a lot of time-sensitive promotions, and by this, we mean things that will target major sporting events, such as March Madness, the Super Bowl, World Series, etc. When these become available, make sure to take advantage of them just as you would at any sportsbook.
William Hill does include longer-running promotions as well, which are essential to keep existing players happy. One of the standout offers is that of the Friday Night Parlay Live. For this, you get a 20% bonus when you place an in-play parlay on three or more teams a Friday night. The parlay for this offer needs to be priced at +550 or greater and has to have three or more selections included. The maximum cash credit is $20 from this offer, which is low, but better than nothing.
The bigger brands often have the best customer support setups, and William Hill is certainly in that category. It’s able to give you 24/7 support via both their live chat and email (email@example.com), a combination that tends to lack around the industry.
